What goes into the cost of Umrah
| Item | What to know |
|---|---|
| Flights | Usually the biggest single cost. Most pilgrims fly into Jeddah (for Makkah) or Madinah. Prices rise sharply in Ramadan and school holidays. |
| Visa | For 2026, travel guides report that Umrah visas for international pilgrims are issued through the official Nusuk platform and must be linked to a hotel and transport booking. The government fee is reported as SAR 300, plus mandatory medical insurance. Reported insurance amounts differ between sources, so check the current total on Nusuk before you pay. |
| Hotels | Hotels within walking distance of the Haram in Makkah and the Prophet's Mosque in Madinah cost the most, especially in the last ten nights of Ramadan. If you apply for a Nusuk Umrah visa, check that your hotel can be linked to the application. |
| Transport | Airport transfers and the trip between Makkah and Madinah, by the Haramain high-speed train, bus or car. |
| Food and extras | Daily meals, SIM cards, laundry and gifts. Easy to underestimate on longer trips. |
Ways to keep the cost down
- Travel outside Ramadan and school holidays if you can. Flights and hotels near the Haram are much cheaper.
- Compare a hotel a little farther from the Haram that runs a shuttle, especially for longer stays.
- Book flights early and compare arriving in Jeddah against arriving in Madinah.
- Share rooms where it makes sense. The calculator splits hotel costs by room, not by person.
Before you book
Rules for Umrah visas, permits and bookings change often. Always confirm the current requirements on the official Nusuk platform and with the Saudi embassy or an authorised agent in your country. This site is an independent planning tool and is not connected to the Saudi government or Nusuk.
