What changes the cost from Malaysia
- Flights: pilgrims from Malaysia usually fly from Kuala Lumpur and other cities to Jeddah (for Makkah) or Madinah. Fares are highest in Ramadan and school holidays.
- Hotels: a hotel within walking distance of the Haram costs much more than one a bus ride away. Splitting a room between family members lowers the cost per person.
- Visa and insurance: the Umrah visa is issued through the official Nusuk platform with mandatory medical insurance. Check the current fee on Nusuk before you pay.
- Exchange rate: hotel and transport prices in Saudi Arabia are set in riyals, so a change in the Malaysian ringgit rate changes your total.
Package or plan it yourself?
Many Malaysians travel with an Umrah package agent, especially for a first Umrah. Compare packages by hotel distance from the Haram and the number of nights in Makkah and Madinah, not only the price.
