What changes the cost from Turkey
- Flights: pilgrims from Turkey usually fly from Istanbul, Ankara and other cities to Jeddah (for Makkah) or Madinah. Fares are highest in Ramadan and school holidays.
- Hotels: a hotel within walking distance of the Haram costs much more than one a bus ride away. Splitting a room between family members lowers the cost per person.
- Visa and insurance: the Umrah visa is issued through the official Nusuk platform with mandatory medical insurance. Check the current fee on Nusuk before you pay.
- Exchange rate: hotel and transport prices in Saudi Arabia are set in riyals, so a change in the Turkish lira rate changes your total.
Package or plan it yourself?
Many pilgrims from Turkey travel with an organised group, while others book flights and hotels themselves. Because the lira can move quickly against the riyal, recheck hotel prices in riyals close to the date you pay.
