What changes the cost from the UAE
- Flights: pilgrims from the UAE usually fly from Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah to Jeddah (for Makkah) or Madinah. Fares are highest in Ramadan and school holidays.
- Hotels: a hotel within walking distance of the Haram costs much more than one a bus ride away. Splitting a room between family members lowers the cost per person.
- Visa and insurance: the Umrah visa is issued through the official Nusuk platform with mandatory medical insurance. Check the current fee on Nusuk before you pay.
- Exchange rate: hotel and transport prices in Saudi Arabia are set in riyals, so a change in the UAE dirhams rate changes your total.
Package or plan it yourself?
From the UAE, Umrah can be a short trip: flights are short, and some pilgrims travel by road. With a short trip, the hotel near the Haram is usually the largest cost, especially on weekends and in Ramadan.
